Extreme Choice Heads 2016 Inglis Sires’ First Acceptances

On Tuesday Racing NSW closed first declarations for the majors of the two day ‘The Championships’ carnival including those for the $1 million Group 1 Inglis’ Sires (1400m), one of four elite levels on Day 1.

Earlier in the season the Inglis Sires’ Produce attracted 229 two-year-olds at nomination stage, a figure now down to just 78 after the first acceptances were taken.

Leading Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au is the undefeated Not A Single Doubt colt Extreme Choice at $4.80 in pre-field markets.

Last start winner of the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in Melbourne, the $1.3 million earning juvenile is also the short-priced $2.80 top fancy to win the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 19.

The Golden Slipper Stakes – ATC Sires’ Produce double was last achieved by Pierro (2012), while the Golden Slipper also produced the 2013 ATC Sires’ winner Guelph (4th).

Price’s other Inglis Sires’ first acceptors are Northern Meteor colt Battle Order and Blue Diamond runner-up Flying Artie who is the $6.50 second favourite for Saturday week’s Golden Slipper and $7 second favourite for the Randwick classic behind his stablemate.

Last year’s ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner was the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Blue Diamond Stakes champion Pride Of Dubai (2015), the stable represented by a bumper nine first acceptances this season.

Co-trainer Peter Snowden also won the race in 2011 with Helmet and 2013 with Guelph and his best hope of going back-to-back in partnership with son Paul in 2016 is Capitalist ($11).

One-time favourite for the Golden Slipper the Written Tycoon colt won his first three starts including the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast before his shock loss as the odds-on favourite in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) last weekend.

Capitalist will be out to atone in the Golden Slipper before a likely Sires’ Produce run where he could be joined by other Snowden-trained hopes including Attention, perennial runner-up Detective and Northern Meteor filly Quick Feet.

Quick Feet was last seen running second to French Fern in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) on Randwick Guineas Day and is one of 30 fillies still in Sires’ Produce contention this autumn.

Fillies have won two of the past three editions of the race and the best fancied of the girls to win this season is the David Vandyke-trained Yankee Rose ($13).

An undefeated daughter of All American she has won her opening two career starts over 1100m at Rosehill in the spring, but is yet to kick off her autumn campaign.

The David Payne-trained Reisling Stakes winner French Fern is another notable Inglis Sires’-bound filly this year, the daughter of Lope De Vega having won two of her three starts to date.

Behind the Price-trained duo the other best fancied hopes for the win meanwhile are the unbeaten John O’Shea-trained Astern ($8) who won the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) last start and Kiss And Make Up ($10).

Prepared by Gai Waterhouse who boasts seven previous wins in the Sires’ Produce, most recently with Pierro (2012), Kiss And Make Up scored the massive upset over Capitalist in the Todman Stakes ahead of his Golden Slipper bid.

See below for the full Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes 2016 first acceptances, the final field due out on Tuesday March 29.
