After a tearaway 8.3 length win on debut at Kembla Grange on December 10, Manhattan Rain filly She Will Reign backed up just seven days later jumping the short-priced favourite in the $500,000 Inglis Nursery (1000m) on a Heavy Randwick track last Saturday.

She didn’t disappoint the punters, handling the mud course without an issue to post a four length victory over Diamond Tathagata and retain her undefeated status.

The eye-catching victory stunned jockey Ben Melham who described her as “pretty special”.

“She’s pretty special,” he told the media post-win.

“We were in the barriers for a long time and sort of stepped in the air as they opened, then mustered quickly and got into a good rhythm.

“Once that happened I knew they wouldn’t get past her. She’s very speedy and she didn’t stop on the line, she was going away from them over 1000.”

She Will Reign has now firmed into the clear $7.50 top fancy for the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1400m) running at Rosehill Gardens on March 18 over the autumn.

Official 2017 Golden Slipper nominations close on January 31.

Portelli has far from confirmed a Golden Slipper bid for his smart filly however also indicating they could target Melbourne’s $1.5 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in late February.

“She’s a fantastic 1000 metre horse at the moment and the jury’s out about how far she’ll get,” Portelli said on Saturday.

“At 1100 [metres] I’m not sure there’s too many that can beat her.”

Former favourite for the world’s richest race for two-year-olds Khan has moved to the second line of futures Golden Slipper Stakes betting at $13 followed by Invincible Star ($15) and Madeenaty ($15).

The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Exceed And Excel colt Khan won the Listed Breeders Plate (1000m0 at Randwick on debut in October, while Gai Waterhouse’s filly Invincible Star took out a Group 3 by over two lengths in her first-up run on Melbourne Cup Day at Flemington.

Madeenaty meanwhile finished third in that same race down the straight second-up after taking out the Listed Maribyrnong Trial (1000m) at the track and distance on October 2.

The Lindsay Park-trained daughter of Exceed And Excel races this Thursday in the $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1100m).

From there she’ll head to Queensland on January 14 for a shot at the lucrative $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m), for which Madeenaty is the $7 all-in favourite to win.

Invincible Star is also heading towards the 2017 Magic Millions 2YO Classic next month and currently pays $9 as the only other single-figure fancy in the pre-field markets.
