An undefeated son of Written Tycoon, the boom colt will face just five rivals in his attempt to make it four-from-four in Saturdayâs $300,000 Group 2 UNSW Todman Stakes (1200m) on Randwick Guineas Day.
His latest turf triumph was in the lucrative $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on the Gold Coast back in early January, Saturday seeing him attempt to secure the ballot exemption into the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 19.
He is current second pick in futures Golden Slipper odds behind Mick Priceâs Blue Diamond winner from last weekend Extreme Choice and is the $1.80 top fancy in Todman Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au for Saturday.
Blake Shinn continues his association with Capitalist in the Group 2, the horse trialling nicely when second to returning boom filly English over 837m at Randwick on February 19.
Following Capitalist in the Todman Stakes odds at $4.40 is the also undefeated Astern for John OâShea.
The Godolphin-raced Medalia DâOro colt jumps from the outside alley (six) in the small Todman Stakes field this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival on the back of two previous Sydney wins.
His debut in December was a two and a half length romp over 1000m at Randwick before he flew home by a half-length as the odds-on pick at Rosehill a fortnight ago in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m).
Rounding out the young colts under $10 for the Todman Stakes trophy this season are early market mover Weatherly ($8.50 into $5.50) and Defcon ($9) drawn in barriers three and two respectively.
Paul Messaraâs Beneteau colt Weatherly was last seen winning the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) down the Flemington straight by one and a half lengths on February 20 from a wide barrier 14 of 15 draw.
Big race specialist Craig Williams retains the ride on Saturday as the Scone-based youngster debuts in Sydney.
Defcon is yet to break his maiden status, but the stablemate of Capitalist has been far from disgraced in his two career openers for two second place efforts.
The first was in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) on a Heavy (8) Rosehill track in late January before he returned to the course two weeks ago crossing second to Astern in the Sliver Slipper.
Canonbury Stakes winner Tessera ($10) is the other OâShea-trained colt in the Todman Stakes line-up this autumn and he gets the inside run from barrier one shooting for his third success from as many starts with Hugh Bowman booked for the ride.
The roughie of the field at $31 for an upset Todman Stakes result is then Kiss And Make Up in barrier four with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle.
Drifting out early in betting from an opening price of $18, the Gai Waterhouse-trained More Than Ready colt won over 1200m at Canterbury on debut on February 17 so could surprise here over the same distance.
